1. Refrigerated Cold Storage
Temp Range: 0°C to 10°C.
Purpose: Slows bacterial growth without freezing the product.
Used For:
- Dairy (milk, cheese, yogurt)
- Fruits and vegetables
- Beverages
- Cooked or semi-cooked food
2. Freezer Storage
Temp Range: -18°C or below
Purpose: Stops microbial growth and extends shelf life drastically.
Used For:
- Frozen meat and seafood
- Ice cream, frozen vegetables
- Pre-packaged frozen meals
3. Blast Freezing / Quick Freezing Units
Temp Range:-30°C to -40°C (during freezing)
Purpose: Maintains product texture and avoids ice crystal damage.
Used For:
- Rapid freezing of meat, fish, prepared foods
- Bakery products (like dough)
4. Controlled Atmosphere (CA) Cold Storage
Temp Range: 0°C to 5°C
Userd For: Apples, berries, pears, kiwis, avocados
Features:
- Controls oxygen(O₂), carbon dioxide(CO₂), humidity
- Extends fruit freshness for 6–12 months
5. Cold Storage Transport Units / Mobile Cold Storage
Equipped with onboard refrigeration units
Used For: last-mile delivery or short/medium range transport
Purpose: Maintains cold chain during transportation
Includes:
- Insulated containers
- Portable reefer boxes (placed on trucks, ships, or at depots)
6. Cryogenic Cold Storage

Used For: last-mile delivery or short/medium range transport
Purpose: Maintains cold chain during transportation
Used For:
- Not common in general food industry
- Special applications like biotech food ingredients, enzymes
- Often uses liquid nitrogen or CO₂
